Hello, I'm Shamila

bACP Logo

I am a registered BACP Counsellor and Psychotherapist with experience of working with clients from many walks of life and motivations to enter therapy.

I am deeply committed to your healing, well-being and the development of you as a whole person: body, mind and spirit.

I’m an Integrative Psychotherapist, which broadly means that I’m trained in lots of different approaches and modalities. I can also use a combination of art, music, and drama in our therapy as well as meditation techniques.

I currently work as a School Counsellor, my passion for working with Children and young people has developed over many years. I have extensive experience of working with 11–25-year-old through my volunteer Counsellor role with a Local Counselling Charity, Bedfordshire Open Door which I did for 2 years. I have lots of experience and exposure working with Children and Young People that are Neurodivergent. I realised that I wanted to make Counselling accessible to all young people and gravitated towards looking at creative ways of working.

I also work as a Project Coordinator for a Child Sexual Exploitation Charity based in Luton. This role has also provided me with the opportunity to work with young people that have experienced exploitation and being able to provide them with long term support. In addition, also raising crucial awareness and implementing preventative strategies.

A new addition to my private practice is Couple Counselling, after working many years as a Marriage mediator. I have undertaken additional specialised training to work with couples as a Counsellor. Again, with Couples I like to work creatively and offer different ways of working through the issues they are experiencing. I now offer Couple walking therapy as an option that could be explored in our sessions together.

Before becoming a psychotherapist/ counsellor, I worked in the Domestic Abuse sector for 10 years as a Domestic abuse specialist. I specialised in Trauma Informed work and have worked with a vast number of women experiencing domestic abuse.

I undertook various projects and roles during this period from Young Women’s Coordinator to Domestic Abuse Coordinator. I facilitated 100s of Domestic Abuse programmes including the Freedom and Own My life Programme.

I also developed and delivered with other colleagues a specialised Domestic Abuse programme called “Our Lives” for women of a South Asian background, this was delivered in South Asian languages.

Prior to leaving the organisation I was a Team leader and provided support and guidance to my colleagues around Domestic Abuse cases.
