"I came to Shamila at a time of great difficulty, and felt safe, comfortable and held throughout my Counselling.
Shamila enabled me to explore difficult parts of my life that I had been unable to process.
She made me feel heard and understood whilst being empathic. Towards the end I felt so much more confident, and happier in my own skin.
I would definitely recommend Shamila as she works creatively, which I really enjoyed."

"I met Shamila a few months ago as someone had recommended her, and I struggle with my feelings.
I have autism and adhd, and Shamila was able to understand me, even whilst we played Jenga. I like doing creative things, and I said to Shamila, “ I don’t want you to look at me, let’s just make things”.
Every week Shamila made the sessions so creative, and I was able to talk about things that had happened to me. I felt so safe with Shamila, and she was so kind towards me."

Couples
Couples therapy, also known as relationship counselling or marriage counselling, is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on helping romantic partners address conflicts, improve communication, and strengthen their relationship.
It provides a structured and confidential space facilitated by me as a trained specialist working with couples, where both individuals can express their thoughts, feelings, and difficulties with greater clarity.

The goal of couples therapy is to help partners understand each other better, resolve existing conflicts, and ultimately restore satisfaction and health within the relationship. It can also provide insight into whether a relationship should continue or how to navigate a separation in the healthiest way, especially if children are involved.

"Shamila was recommended to us and we found her to be very practical in her approach, she provided us with homework to focus on each week.
We were at the stage where we were not communicating with one another at all, and over a period of 8 weeks Shamila enabled us to progress each week.
We finished at the point where we felt happy with how our relationship had progressed, and we could see a future together.
Would highly recommend Shamila, she has a very warm, practical approach, she makes you feel comfortable and relaxed, where you can openly discuss anything with her."

"We approached Shamila, and were really impressed by her professionalism.
Her ability to understand both of our personalities, and showing us both parts of one another that we were not aware of.
Shamila also did some walking therapy with us, which we found really beneficial, and then were able to continue this."

Walking therapy, often called "walk-and-talk" therapy, is a form of counselling where the therapist and client meet and conduct their session while walking outdoors.
It's an alternative to traditional, sedentary office sessions. This approach combines the benefits of talk therapy with the physical and psychological advantages of walking and being in nature.
Walking Therapy
Walking therapy is structured similarly to a traditional session, with the same focus on confidentiality, therapeutic goals, and a professional relationship. The key difference is the setting and the movement.

Side-by-Side Conversation
Walking side-by-side can feel less confrontational and more relaxed than a face-to-face meeting in an office. This can make it easier for some people to open up and discuss difficult topics. It creates a more equal and collaborative dynamic between the therapist and client.
Physical and Mental Connection
The rhythmic motion of walking can help clients process their thoughts and emotions. It also helps to counteract the feelings of being "stuck" in a problem by literally moving forward. The physical activity itself releases endorphins, which can improve mood and reduce stress and anxiety.
The Power of Nature
Being outdoors in a natural environment can be very grounding and calming. The sights, sounds, and fresh air can provide a welcome distraction and a way to practice mindfulness. This can help to break cycles of negative rumination and provide a sense of perspective.
Flexibility and Real-World Application
Therapists can use the outdoor environment to introduce techniques like grounding exercises or metaphors. For example, a therapist might use the image of a winding path to discuss a client's journey through a difficult life transition.
